Achieving project goals and learning the impact of design on emergency environments are two topics for discussion by HKS Healthcare Group staff at the 2012 International Summit & Exhibition on Health Facility Planning, Design and Construction (PDC).
The conference, to be held March 4-7 in Phoenix, Ariz., is sponsored by the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) and the American Hospital Association (AHA).
“Achieving Project Goals through Clinical Integration and Value Creation” will be presented by Jeff Stouffer, AIA, HKS principal; Bob Martineck, AIA, LEED AP, HKS principal; Dave Cottle, vice president, planning, design & construction, Phoenix Children's Hospital; Richard Rome, PE, president, CCRD Partners; and Michael Wolfe, project director, Kitchell Contractors. The panel of speakers, responsible for $400 million worth of new construction and renovations at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, will describe the innovative delivery methods used to complete the project under budget and ahead of schedule, while still satisfying the client-directed value proposition.
“First Do No Harm: How Design Impacts Safe Care in the Emergency Environment” will be presented by Thomas Harvey, AIA, MPH, FACHA, LEED AP, HKS principal; David Vincent, AIA, ACHA, LEED AP, HKS principal; and Debajyoti Pati, Ph.D., FIIA, LEED AP, executive director, CADRE. Research and analyses of emergency department (ED) physical design as it relates to patient safety and staff efficiency will be presented. A question-and-answer period will allow attendees to address specific questions related to their upcoming, planned ED projects.

The AHA is a not-for-profit association of healthcare provider organizations and individuals committed to improving health in their communities.
